"Cooley's Set" by The Wild Clover Band
Established in the year 2000, The Wild Clover Band has quickly become a regional favorite for its version of traditional Irish folk music, which blends the Celtic styles with jazz, bluegrass, classical and rock influences. Because of this fusion of styles, The Wild Clover Band advertises themselves as “Irish Music and More.” Playing in a local pub, the group began primarily as an instrumental group focusing on Irish and American fiddle tunes. They have now evolved into a group that specializes in Irish dance tunes, pub songs, and ballads and has played festivals, community concerts, pubs, and private functions throughout the state of Nebraska, as well as Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and South Dakota. The band features a wide array of instruments including mandolin, fiddle, bass, banjo, bouzouki, guitar, penny whistle, flute, bodhran and accordion. This versatile instrumentation has allowed the band to explore the Irish genre and expand on its “and More” component by adding some non-Irish tunes to their repertoire including selections from the rock, jazz, country and bluegrass genres. This versatility and excellent musicianship has gained the band a strong local following and has made them very marketable. If you get the chance to see The Wild Clover Band, it is a safe bet that you will be thoroughly entertained. "Pax Romana MMV" by Brother
by Catherine L. Tully Artist: BrotherAlbum: Pax Romana MMVYear produced: 2005 The Aussie boy's have done it again! Fans of Brother already know that they have a sound that is totally unique--but if you haven't yet had the privilege of listening to these guys, now is the time! This is not traditional Celtic by any means, but it is great stuff . . . As before, there is enough Celtic flavor (and instruments--yes--there are pipes!) for the appetite, along with a healthy dose of innovation. I rarely have trouble classifying a band, and those that I do have trouble with, I usually don't like. Not the case here--and after being around for two of their CDs now, I can honestly say, I am eager to hear what is next. If I had to describe their sound it would be alternative world rock-ish with a Celtic seasoning. Truthfully, however, that doesn't really capture it completely. I heard a flash of Dead Can Dance in track 5, but then it went its own direction--as Brother always does . . . The first track is a triumph of harmony and arrangement. This CD has a more overall moody vibe than the last one (which had a more Linkin Park type feel to the vocals). Brother is continually evolving and it works. You get the feeling they can't do anything wrong--even though what they do doesn't seem like it should work in the first place! I really love these guys. Sometimes unique doesn't mean weird--it just means fabulous. Next time, I just hope they will grace us with more than 8 tracks on the CD.

"Better That Way" by Christie Hennessy
Held in deep regard by artists such as Christy Moore, Francis Black and Maire Brennan (all of whom achieved their first number one hits with covers of songs by Christie Hennessy), Hennessy is a triple-platinum selling artist in Ireland. As the writer of "Don't Forget Your Shovel", the track that propelled Christy Moore to the no. 1 slot, Hennessy has a pedigree that goes back a long way. Now 60, and after a 6-year break in recording, Hennessy returns with what the Irish press have hailed as "[h]is best album ever". 'Stories For Sale' was produced and recorded by Hennessy with Neill & Calum MacColl. These brothers, well known musicians in their own right, bring an extra dimension to this beautifully written and exquisitely played album. Hometown: London, UK. Originally from Tralee, Eire.
