"Toss The Feathers/The Battle Of Auchrim" by Green Man
Green Man combines Irish/Scottish melodies with Eastern rhythms. The result is a fresh, modern musical approach that extends beyond traditional Celtic music. Their debut 13-song CD contains original compositions and contemporary arrangements of traditional tunes and sets played using both electric and acoustic instruments... plus a few surprises. "Toss The Feathers/The Battle Of Auchrim" is beautifully performed combining a mix of toe tapping music with some toe tapping... or something that sounds like that. Strong bass, fantastic flute work, and rhythm that gets your own toes tapping to this groovy rendition of these two traditional tunes. "See Spot Run" by FiddleSticks
FiddleSticks is a family musical group that performs folk songs and traditional tunes from the Celtic lands, from England, and from America. The band is made up of three teenaged sisters, Rebecca, Kathryn, and Elizabeth Davis, and their father Mark. Tunes are presented in a lively mix, with influences from Jazz, Klezmer, New Age, and Afro-Caribbean traditions. FiddleSticks' music is a lively mix of traditional Celtic and English dance music, together with original pieces by the group's composer and fiddler, Kathryn, as well as plenty of storytelling songs of life, love and laughter. A typical performance also includes a few sets containing Klezmer (Jewish), continental European, contemporary American folk, and Mormon Pioneer music. "See Spot Run" is an energizing Turtle-esque Island tune on fiddle and cello. It beautifully blends their cultural influences into a powerful melting pot of musical mastery. Hometown: Orem, Utah Similar Artists: Altan, Bonnie Rideout, Eileen Ivers, Ceoltoire, Antonio Vivaldi, Aengus, Jerry Holland, J.S. Bach, Black Family, Rankin Family, Klezmatics Website: FiddleSticksDownload MP3: "See Spot Run" Buy CD: "Cat and the Fiddle"

"Step It Out Mary" by Loscoe State Opera
A raggle-taggle Celtic folk-punk with attitude from Derbyshire UK, playing uniquely adapted folk and memorable original material. You are a lot of different versions of "Step It Out Mary", but I gotta say that this is my favorite, thusfar. It combines a bunch of things I love, a traditional Celtic folk song with some badarse rockin' guitars, flute remimenscent of Jethro Tull, lead vocals early punk, while the background vocals provide that perfect touch of "we know what the hell we're doin'". The band performs with musical poetry that few bands capture with a live recording. Hometown: Derbyshire, United Kingdom Similar Artists: The Pogues, The Levellers, The Clash, Fairport Covention, Martin Carthy, Jethro Tull Website: Loscoe State OperaDownload MP3: "Step It Out Mary"Buy CD: "Dawn Bird"

"Danny Boy" by The Irish Gypsy
McCall Farrell is a classical trained opera singer with Irish roots and a passion for many genres of music. She's a 26 year old soprano located in the DC Metro Area, currently recording her first compilation cd of original & traditional Irish tunes. Another beautiful voice I first heard on MP3.com, McCall Farrell has an operatic diamond voice as she sings the Irish American classic "Danny Boy". I was chatting with some folks today about the place of Irish American music and it's place in the Celtic music world. The lyrics for "Danny Boy" were written by an English lawyer, Frederic Edward Weatherly (1848-1929), to an old Irish aire. The song was popularized by many of the old American ballad singers like Bing Crosby. Despite these beginnings it was embraced by the Irish American community and is an important part of the Celtic culture. "Spancil Hill" by Straight Furrow
A UK three piece with a powerful mix of traditional Irish and original tunes and songs. Haunting aires to raise the hair on your neck and rip-roaring dance music get your feet tapping. I've listened to Straight Furrow's instrumental MP3s for a while, but somehow I missed their songs. "Spancil Hill" is a marvelous upbeat and grooving version of Michael Considine's immigrant ballad. You can definitely hear Straight Furrow's Fairport Convention influences, but it's the fair straight forward, honest folk sound that admire most from this barndance band. They've been a hit online and are once again a new hit in my book of great Celtic folk music!
