"Highlander" by The Mill

A Neo-Celtic folk group from Moscow, Russia.

This fascinated me. Here's a band from Russia performing a lyrics by Robert Burns. I started to listen and found some great music. Okay, the lyrics are in a language I can't understand (I think Russian), but the song is amazing. Great rhythm and use of instrumentation.

"Skye Boat Song" by Clare de Lune

Lead singer for Shenanigan. Clare de Lune performs a wide
assortment of wonderful Irish and Scottish songs.

I started learning this song last week and wanted to hear how others were performing it. This is my pick of the best version on mp3.com. Clare sings a stirring version of this gorgeous Scottish lullaby about Bonnie Prince Charles and his escape from the Scotland after the Scots were defeated at Culloden.

"There I Must Lie" by Mad Rush

Male/female family duo with strong solo and harmony vocals and
instrumentation.

If you like great stories in your ballads, you will love this song. Mad Rush has done an exquisite job at telling the story of Anne Boleyn prior to her beheading. The music is perfectly simple with a subtle recorder accentuating the beauty of Den's vocals. This song sounds like it is straight out of the period. You can almost see the minstrel writing the story as it happens. Outstanding!

"Will Ye Go (Wild Mountain Thyme)" by Heidi, Stef & Bow Triplets

Very Celtic music played by a dedicated Switzerland based Band. Traditional songs and tunes plus some original compositions combining their own multinational backgrounds whith the Celtic styles to which this band is deeply comitted. They can be heard live in various countries in Europe.

I'll tell ye what I love our version of this song, but last week, Bow Triplets made all of their songs available on MP3.com and I listened to their recording of this classic Scottish song, and I was very pleased. The song is somewhat sad, but this recording also seems to add a hope to a trying day of disaster in New York. Thank you Heidi & Stef for the inspiration!

"Archibald MacDonald of Keppoch" by Shenanigan

A great variety of Irish and Scottish traditional players and singers from Canada.

I saw this song had broken into the Celtic top 40 and took a moment to listen. It is a beautiful Scottish air performed on fiddle. But it is tinged with sadness. It made me pensive and hopeful for the day ahead.
