"A Maid In Ninians Day" by Blue Knight
James Gilchrist founded the Celtic Folk/Rock/World band Blue Knight in 2002, but Gilchrist has been performing for audiences since 1993. They incorporate a wide range of influences into their music - Celtic and Spanish world styles, modern American and Irish pop/rock, and lyrics inspired by Pre-Raphaelite artists. Blue Knight can be heard in New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and at venues up and down the East coast. "A Maid In Ninians Day" is a beautiful original Celtic New Age trip with powerful music. The melody sounds very traditional like an old carol that I can't put my finger on... always a good sign. On the download page, you'll get a pre-Raphaelite art piece that I assume was in part an inspiration for the song. For a live recording, it beautifully fits the mood. Simply beautiful! "The Hills o'The Yarrow" by Hugh Morrison
Born in Wick, in the far north of Scotland, Hugh Morrison served his musical apprenticeship with the Tain Scottish Dance Band and quickly made his name as an exponent of the three-row button key accordion. Recorded in Houston, Texas, where he is now based, this album shows that Hugh still retains his taste for Scottish and Celtic music and hasn't lost his touch on the button box. The album contains a varied selection of his own favourite tunes, played with the flair and style expected by those familiar with his music. Whether or not you have heard him before, listen in, feel the 'lift' and 'swing', put your "Feet to the Floor" and enjoy. "The Hills O'The Yarrows" is such a beautiful tune that that I added it to my Coventina's Well, a Celtic music compilation CD benefitting the Austin Celtic Association.
